RICK SANTORUM TALKING POINTS

KEY MESSAGE

Full Spectrum Conservative: Rick is a full spectrum conservative who has fought tirelessly
not only for a limited government, economic growth, and the protection of American
interests around the world, but he has never surrendered the fight for America’s moral
and cultural heritage.

ACHIEVEMENTS

- Rick ended partial birth abortions in America.
- Rick ended a federal entitlement by passing welfare reform.
- Wrote critical legislation protecting America from growing Iranian nuclear threat.
- Served on the Senate Armed Services Committee for 8 years
- Led the fight to cut wasteful spending, including introducing more legislation in one
year to cut the deficit than anyone in Congress.

ELECTABILITY

Rick is the only candidate who has defeated Democratic incumbents (in a blue state) and
who has a history of winning tough elections.

- 1990: Rick’s election to the House of Representatives was considered the biggest upset
of the year.
- 1992: Rick is re-elected overwhelmingly despite having a new district that was over
 60% Democrat in registration.
- 1994: Rick is successfully elected to the U.S. Senate as one of only two people to defeat
 an incumbent Senator that year.
- 2000: Rick is successfully re-elected despite being the number one target of the Democrats,
in a state that has a more than 1 million voter registration advantage for the Democrats.
Rick has laid the groundwork for states beyond Iowa.
- Rick is already running ads in New Hampshire, has ground operations in New Hampshire,
South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. And he has had great success getting on the ballots in states.
- Fund-raising for the campaign has dramatically picked up with his recent
rise in the polls.

Rick has a long history of cutting taxes, reducing spending and fighting for a balanced budget amendment.

- Rick has never voted for a tax increase.  Rick has called for significant tax rate  cuts for middle-class
Americans and will cut wasteful spending to take the growing deficit off the backs of our children.
- Member of Congressional “Gang of Seven” that exposed taxpayer scandals at Congressional bank
and Congressional Post Office.
-  Rick’s Made in the USA manufacturing plan has been rated one of the best for bringing back
manufacturing jobs from overseas, and his economic plan was graded an “A” for including a way to
eliminate waste and cutting the deficit.

Rick refuses to surrender the moral, cultural, and constitutional heritage of America.

- Rick has been a national pro-life leader, passing several pieces of legislation to protect the lives of
the unborn, including ending partial birth abortions in America.
- Time magazine named Rick one of the 25 most influential Evangelicals in America.
- Rick is a Constitutional “Originalist” who believes the constitution should be interpreted by asking
what the meaning of the constitutional text was at the time of adoption.
- Rick has an A+ rating by the NRA.

Rick has more foreign policy credentials than the other candidates.

- Rick served 8 years on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
- Rick led the fight to secure U.S. interests in the Middle East and passed the "Syria Accountability Act"
and the "Iran Freedom and Support Act.” o Rick led the fight to transform our military after the Cold War.

Response To Other Questions

Why did Rick endorse former Sen. Arlen Specter? Two words: Alito and Roberts. Rick endorsed Specter
on the condition that Specter, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, would ensure
President Bush’s judicial nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court were voted out of committee.

Why did Rick lose his last Senate race? Rick lost re-election in 2006 during the worst political
environment for Republicans in modern times. President Bush’s approval numbers were remarkably
low in Pennsylvania. Not only was Rick defeated, but the Republican candidate lost the Governor’s
race by 20 points, and four Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives were defeated.

Why did Rick oppose E-Verify? Rick opposed E-Verify in 2006 because it was part of a measure
sponsored by John McCain and Ted Kennedy that would have provided amnesty to illegals.

  1. Two thoughts on the message on this page:
    1) Time magazine wouldn't know a Christian even if one were evangelizing in front of their headquarters. If you want to play this card, then use credible sources of whose authority Christians will respect. For example, John MacArthur would be a huge, positive endorsement; where as Rick Warren would be a setback. If no credible Christian leaders are willing to endorse this campaign, then stick to the Christian message without citing sources that are not Christian...
    2) Whether it's factually true or not that Rick ended partial birth abortions, it doesn't sound like a credible claim because the American people don't expect that individuals can accomplish anything on their own in the Senate. It would resonate more dearly with voters to demonstrate cooperation and leadership; for example, "Rick lead the reform movement in the Senate that lead to the end of partial birth abortions" or some other statement demonstrating bold leadership and cooperation.

Otherwise, good luck tomorrow in Washington =) Looking forward to doing this caucusing thing.

  2. On the eve of the Washington State Caucus I have heard several people make the argument that 'values' aren't as important as the economy. This simply is not the case. Evangelicals are not values voters simply because it is an afterthought. We are so called values voters because the values reflect the Commandments of Our LORD both in word and deed. In the Old Testament, Israel was repeatedly brought in and out of captivity for accepting the so called values of the goyim (heathen) around them and then, repenting. When they rebelled and took on the cultural norms of those around them, they became captive. When they submitted to the LORD, they were blessed. Leviticus 20 clearly states the activities the LORD finds abhorrent and abominable. Among them are men lying with men as with women and making children to "pass through the fire" (infanticide). These were the 'values' of that day. God has never said focus on the economy and things will get better. He has said and continues to say 'Keep My Commands'. The covenant of God's Blessing is conditional. With 55 million dead children since 1973 the most dangerous place in America for a child to be is in his mother's womb. By comparison Stalin murdered 26 million of his own people and the Holocaust claimed 6-9 million Jews. I support Rick Santorum because he knows that God rewards people who stand. "...that ye may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all, to STAND. Ephesians 6:13.
